BANK OF CYPRUS ONCOLOGY CENTRE & GERMAN ONCOLOGY CENTRE TO BE INCLUDED IN GESY?
Filenews 1 September 2020
Important developments, with regard to the integration of private oncological centers in the GHS, announced the director of the OAC, Andreas Papakonstantinou, speaking to Active and the show "Agenda". In particular, Mr Papakonstantinou said that there was an initial agreement with the German Oncology Centre for membership in the GHS, specifying that the agreement also applies to the Oncology Centre of the Bank of Cyprus.
He explained that "this allows them to gradually join the GHS and open up the market so that patients can have a choice where to receive services."
"We believe that in the coming weeks we will reach a comprehensive final agreement," he said afterwards, noting that there is a very good climate with both oncology centres.
With regard to the recent accession of the TDPs to the GHS and the criticism recorded, Mr Papakonstantinou referred to two issues: in particular on the issue of adequate staffing of THEPs, he pointed out that it was a matter of decisions of the OKYP. "This is a strategic decision that the CSO has to make," Mr Papakonstantinou said. Regarding the familiarity of staff with the software, Mr Papakonstantinou expressed the position that there are problems but an effort is being made to improve and things are going smoothly.
He also expressed the position that the GHS cannot rely on the pandemic for failures, but we cannot ignore the fact that the pandemic has affected the system in terms of revenue.
On the issue of abuse by doctors in the system and asked whether they have been examined, he noted that we have examined some cases in depth, but there is no possibility to examine them all. "Yes there are abuses, but we have to be careful and examine all cases in depth," he said, among other things.
Mr Papakonstantinou pointed out that all services will be integrated on 19 October, i.e. clinical psychologists, clinical dietitians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech therapists and dentists for tooth cleaning. He clarified that only the inpatient part of the dentists is part of the GHS.
In conclusion, the Director of the OAC expressed the view that the improvement of the system should be seen year after year and stressed the urgent need to succeed, which patients will judge. It recalled that every three years the efficiency of the GHS would be assessed and improvement measures would be taken, either in terms of the service package or in terms of its economic aspect.
