THIRTEEN NEW CASES TODAY, SATURDAY

The Ministry of Health informs that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, a total of 3,220 laboratory diagnoses identified 13 new cases of COVID-19 disease.

In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:

  • Of 586 samples taken through a private initiative, 5 positive individuals were identified in the virus.
  • Of 116 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 922 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 6 cases were identified.
  • Of 193 samples taken as part of the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 1 case was identified.

In particular, they emerged as follows:

  • 6 x flights:
  1. The 3 people came from Belgium to Larnaca on 25/9.
  2. One person from Egypt to Larnaca on 25/9.
  3. One person from Germany in Larnaca on 25/9.
  4. One person from Israel in Larnaca on 25/9.
  • 5 x private initiative:
  1. The 3 people are from the cluster of the National Achna; 2 are football players (one reported a headache) and the 3rd is a team member and reported a sore throat.
  2. The 4th person reported weakness on 22/9 when he tested negative. He developed a cough and had a re-examination yesterday.
  3. The 5th person is an employee of the company, where 5 other people were identified and announced on 23/9 (one Cypriot and 4 Czechs). Today's incident was carried out on 22/9 along with the other workers with a negative result. On 24/9 he developed symptoms and repeated the test. Cluster has 6 people.
  • 1 x referral from a doctor: This is a person who has had symptoms and has been referred by a doctor to the Public Health Clinics.
  • 1 x Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals: Concerns an elderly person with symptoms.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 228 laboratory tests were carried out,
  • From samples taken as part of the migrant structure control programme, 29 laboratory diagnoses were carried out,
  • From samples taken under the laboratory control programme of 5,000 people aged 18-40 years in places with a high confusion of individuals, 764 laboratory tests were completed,
  • From samples taken as part of the laboratory sample test of 3,000 people in Larnaca Province, 101 laboratory diagnoses were carried out, and
  • Samples taken as part of the student, teacher and school staff control programme completed 281 laboratory diagnoses.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases is 1,684.

In addition, a total of 14 people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at Famagusta General Hospital, three of them in the Increased Care Unit.
